Tell a Friend

Dear Sir/Madam,

Late last night, my phones rang non-stop, thanks to my brief appearance on Just For Laughs, the program I am sure you think is damn good and quite proud of.

Unfortunately, I cannot agree.

In the gag that I was had, a guy who spoke with a foreign accent was desperately looking for help and nobody bothered except me.

The arrogant information officer told me that he was on a break and he could not be disturbed, and that was how things work in Singapore.

So me, as a good citizen of Singapore, went to figure out what was happening and tried to offer my assistance.

And in return, I found myself a victim of your brainless and tasteless prank.

It's not that I don't have a sense of humor, but just think about the scenario that you had created and the message that it sent to the kind-hearted people out there.

At the end of the day, you may have attracted 2000 viewers and entertained 120 of them thoroughly, but at what price?

First, we get bombarded all day all night about how we should be helpful and welcoming to foreigners or new citizens, and that was exactly what I did.

Second, we get accused all the time for being a apathetic group of people who just sit and watch while others get bullied. I went to "settle" a problem because someone gave a false and horrible impression of my country and there was an old woman who needed help.

Now do you wonder why most people stayed on the side and watch when a part-goer was groped by a few strangers in Sentosa.

Perhaps, they thought that too was a gag?

Not that it matters to you, but I should add that I had refused to sign the release and had told the production crew that I didn't think it was funny and I wanted no part to play in it.

Needless to say, you have never heard of the word ethics.

By the way, I have posted this on several blogs I maintain. I will be happy to post any response that you have.
