Be part of the SingaporeCreates project!

The theme for this year's National Day celebrations is "Celebrating the Singapore Spirit". Earlier this year, in April, students across Singapore were invited to express and celebrate the Singapore Spirit through art. Check out their work on display at the following public spaces during the national day celebrations period: Somerset MRT station, an SMRT train, SMRT bendy buses, selected JCDecaux bus stops and selected Caltex service stations.

Update: Caltex Challenge Results!

Yes, we have heard your calls, and here are the long-awaited results!

In (month 08), we asked Singaporeans 'What drives you to be a proud Singaporean?' The competition was publicised through the MySingapore.sg website as well as 100,000 postcards distributed all around Singapore. More than 200 entries were sent in via email and sms. The answers ranged from those who enthusiastically wrote about the good governance here and why Singapore is better than other countries, to those who gave heartfelt answers about the people in Singapore, our spirit and their own aspirations.

Our judges (Ms Judy Tan, Caltex Brand Manager, Singapore; Dr K U Menon, Director, National Resilience Division, Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts; and Mrs Tan Wai Lan, Deputy Director, National Education and Planning, Ministry of Education) had a tough time choosing their favourites. But they finally came to a consensus, and have decided to award prizes to the following participants:

1st Prize: $1,000 worth of Caltex StarCash gift cards to Ms Hoonie Ng, who wrote:
"Singapore is the only place which has given me and my family everything – education, career and security; the only place which has provided us with opportunities to grow and succeed; and the only place which we can truly call our home. Indeed, in Singapore, I am constantly driven me to be a better and stronger person and to reach for my goals without giving up."

2nd Prize: $600 worth of Caltex StarCash gift cards to Mr Chong Yi Ruen, who wrote:
"It’s the fact that my roots are deeply sunk in Singapore, a country which always delivers, where things happen or work, where we’re always driven to meet challenges head on. Cynics once said we won’t make it but we did; they don’t know we die die also must try!"

3rd Prize: $400 worth of Caltex StarCash gift cards to Mr Muhd Asyraf, who wrote:
"The fact that every turn will bring me somewhere interesting and intriguing. From historical stories of the past to the yummy food, this is indeed the driving force of not me, but every proud Singaporean. :-)"

Congrats to the three lucky people! We'll be contacting you soon to arrange for you to collect your Caltex StarCash gift cards.

For the rest of you who didn't win anything this time, keep your eyes peeled for more terrific competitions coming your way via mySingapore.sg.  We've got something really cool ones planned for the month of December!

--Goh Rui En

"That no matter how small a country we are, we dare to face up to challenges and ensure we succeed in everything we do. This is so that generations thereafter can continue to call themselves Singaporeans."
--Chan Shee Mun

"The fact that Singapore is a small country and yet able to succeed and excel in so many areas. Its only asset is its people (you and me) and this is what drives me to be a proud Singaporean."
--Peter Quah

"I am extremely proud to be a Singaporean. Whenever I go overseas, I would often dream about my beautiful and peaceful homeland. I would remember the scrumptious food over in Singapore when I eat food in other countries. Next time, I would help serve the country, to be a first-class country!

Whenever I go on the streets to go for lunch or tuition lessons, I would always admire the buildings and trees. Especially the Esplanade, the Singapore Flyer, Suntec City, Vivo City... I like the airport control tower and airport terminal best. I feel proud of our aeroplane, especially the logo. I feel very comfortable living in Singapore.

I feel that Singapore is very important to us as it is our home, our nation. People far and wide come to Singapore to see how it is like. Even if our country is small, I have big pride for it. Singapore!!! Shine, shine, shine!!!"
--Keane Chua

"I am grateful to be born and bred in Singapore. Singapore is efficient, safe and secure. It has an excellent education, healthcare and transport system. It is known as a food paradise, it has a vibrant arts scene; it's a city of possibiliites!

Singaporeans are resourceful, dynamic and creative. From winning Olympic medals to NeWater, nothing is impossible! We are one united people working towards the progress of our nation. In good or challenging times, we work hand in hand with our leaders to forge ahead; to garner success in every field.

Let us all then, continue to do our part well, with pride and passion and thus shine for Singapore. I do and I believe you do too!"
--Hew May Leng

"What drives me to be a proud Singaporean is that I live in a unique country, a tiny dynamo always on the move, always ready to meet challenges from giants, always eager for change. Singapore is so progressive, so vibrant that it's hard to keep up at times, but that's what I love about it!"
--Lynette Chong
